COUNCIL KLONDIKE
Who: Webelos, Boy Scouts, and Ventures When: January 22-24 Where: LE Phillips Scout Reservation What is a Klondike? Many years ago, men raced across the Alaskan frozen wilderness by means of Dogs and Sleds. Scouting has taken this idea and came up with the idea of the Klondike Derby as a winter activity for Scouting. Each patrol will bring or build a sled, collect materials and equipment, and prepare to embark on the Klondike and participate as a team in the derby. Each team will embark on a separate expedition, following a course to Various Alaskan Cities and points of interest...........................much more to follow on our Alaskan Journey! Mark your calendars and get your "Teams", patrols and troops ready, and do not forget your senior Webelos. For more information and the registration form, visit the following link: Klondike Flyer
CENTENNIAL QUALITY COMMITMENTS
The time has come to take a few moments to take a look at the 2010 Centennial Quality Commitment and Achievement Form. It is important to
understand that this is an opportunity for your Pack or Troop to sit down and create your goals for the 2010 year. These goals are meant to
give direction for each Pack and Troop in terms of the quality and ultimately the betterment of each boy in our program.
Please take a few moments with your committee or unit leaders to fill out the 2010 Goal column. The 2009 Actual column is useful to track how your Pack or Troop did in the previous year. Please then sign the areas just under the goal setting boxes and send back to the Council Office no later than Feb. 15th via mail, e-mail or fax. Please remember that each unit is eligible for the award upon reaching their goals after Oct. 30th. The Centennial Quality form can be found at: Centennial Award Unit Chippewa Valley Council 710 S. Hastings Way Eau Claire, WI 54701 Fax: 715-832-6711 Please remember: 1. Keep goals realistic. 2. Don’t be afraid to challenge your Pack or Troop in its goals. If you don’t risk failure, you will never achieve success. 3. A goal is only as good as the plan in place to reach it. 4. Communicate these goals with all other members of your Pack or Troop so as a team you can strive to achieve this award. 5. The determined goals are designed to help your Pack or Troop grow in youth members, volunteers, and quality of program.
FRIENDS OF SCOUTING FAMILY PRESENTATIONS
Casseroles are being baked for Blue and Gold dinners and Pinewood derby cars are being designed. Both Pinewood derbies and glue and gold’s are great events, but it is important to remember that they are only part of equation for the survival of scouting. This years Friends of Scouting campaign is here. Friends of Scouting is important to the scouting because it contributes to the existence to the upkeep of Camp Phillips, Cub World, scouting insurance, day camps, training opportunities for our volunteers and for professional support. This year each presentation will bring with it a chance to win a prize of 4 air show tickets (a value of $80) to anyone that gives a donation to the unit’s FOS Gold Card Goal. If a unit can reach its FOS Gold Card goal that pack or troop will receive 10% off the cost of camp and 10% off of purchases from the Council Scout Shop for their pack or troop. Our District FOS Family Chair, Patty Jansky is in the process of making contact with each pack and troop to set a date on when a Friends of Scouting presenter can come to speak with your unit. If you have dates already set aside for your FOS presentation please contact Patty Jansky at 715-723-0408, or contact Chris Arndt at 715-832-6671.
