Blue Angels Coming To Eau Claire

We are proud to announce that the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be coming to the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport on September 13-14, 2008!

For the first time in the 98 year history of the National Scouting Program a local Boy Scout Council is the sponsoring organization. That is a tremendous undertaking and the Board of Directors is to be commended for agreeing to take on a project of this magnitude.

What does this mean to the Chippewa Valley Council? First of all, this will be the biggest BIG EVENT the Council has ever had! Secondly, even though some Boy Scout Troops have been involved with some duties at previous airshows (snow fence setup & tear down, garbage clean-up, etc.), more troops will become involved with this year’s airshow. We have a number of duties that used to be completed by the Eau Claire Jaycee’s which will now need to be done by Boy Scout Troops. These duties will include things such as setup and tear down of chalet fencing, setup and tear down of the artificial flight line, gate admission staffing along with other volunteers, etc.

In addition, we will be having a Camporee on the backside of the Airport property that Dick Freitag has agreed to be the Director for and Steve Bircher, who is a Board Member, has agreed to be his Assistant. Plans are just starting for this part of the Big Event.

As far as the overall planning for the Airshow, Tim Olson (former Council President and Treasurer) and Jeff Staads (presently Vice President of Boy Scouting), are the Co-Chairman of the Airshow. A strong organizational committee has been formed from past leaders of previous airshows all the way back to 1976, which was the first airshow in the Chippewa Valley. There have been 9 previous airshows (1976, 1978, 1981, 1983, 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998 and 2002) at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport and all were previously sponsored by the Eau Claire Jaycees. Tim Olson and Jeff Staads were the Co-Chairman of the 1994 show which also featured the Blue Angels.

Our council looks forward to a huge event in a number of ways. September is a big month for membership recruitment. The airshow will be a super way to promote the Chippewa Valley Council as well as the overall Scouting program. So please mark your calendars for the weekend of September 13-14th as things will be flying around the Chippewa Valley!

Please be sure to check out the airshow website at: www.chippewavalleyairshow.com which has a complete listing of all performers. More information will be available on this website as it becomes available.

2008 Airshow: Scouting Talent Needed

Over 1,000 youth and adults will be gathering on September 13-14th 2008 to celebrate Scouting by participating in the largest event this Council has ever held. Groups who participate in the event will be involved in a historic event. We are anticipating national media attention as we host the first Airshow ever hosted by a Boy Scout Council.

As part of the event we will have the opportunity to show to the world what Scouting is all about. We are anticipating that over 1,000 youth and adults will be participating in the Big Event with multiple Councils being in attendance.

The grounds will be covered with, monkey bridges, forts, towers, and teepees. This will be an opportunity to share the Scouting story with the public. We have already received numerous requests by groups to share their talent at the event. We are currently looking for unique projects and ideas to display. Ideas include: pioneering projects, dutch oven cooking, rock climbing, canoeing, back packing, mountaineering, camping, snow shoeing and log sawing just to name a few. If your group has a talent they would like to share please contact the Big Event chair Dick Freitag at 835-9034 today. Act now. Space is limited.
