Spring Camporee
It may have taken longer than most would like for the snow to melt and temperatures to rise
but spring is here, and the Tall Oaks Spring Camporee is right around the corner.
Once again the Camporee will be a boy planned event. Activities at the Camporee will include
work on several Merit Badges including Soil and Water, Camping and Geology. The Camporee will
be held on the soccer fields next to Cedar Falls School May 16th and 17th. Friday night is
optional camping, with planned events beginning Saturday morning. The cost of the event is
$10 per participant; if you have not pre-registered please do so today.
National Summer Time Award
Attention Packs now is the time to start planning for the National Summertime Award. This
award is a way to recognize Packs who plan and execute a year round program meeting. The Talls
Oaks is fortunate enough to have several units that participate in this program, in the past.
The requirements are simple; a unit must conduct a planned pack activity in June, July and
August while exceeding a minimum attendance level. Applications and more information on this
Award will be available at the Program Kick-Off meeting on May 13th.
Tour Permit Reminder
Just a reminder to those units who have planned treks over the summer it is time to start
getting tour permits lined up. Any out of Council trip will require either a Local or National
Tour Permit. A National Tour Permit when required will take a month to process so be sure to
allow plenty of time. The application forms for either Permit can be printed off of the
Resources page of our website. If you have questions on which one you need for your trek
please call the Scout Office.
May Program Kick-Off
In replacement of the May Roundtable the Tall Oaks will be holding their annual Program
Kick-Off. Kick-Off will be held the same day May 13th but will begin an hour earlier at
6:00pm and will be in Wakanda Park. This is just down the hill from Christ Lutheran Church
where our meetings are normally held. If you need directions please call Josh Boehm at
832-6671. This is a very important meeting for all units to attend, as there will be a lot of
important information handed out at this time. All units should send two representatives to
the meetings. This event has traditionally been a potluck and this year is no different.
We ask that everyone bring a dish to pass, there will be hot coals available ahead of time for
those who wish to do Dutch oven cooking.
District Awards of Merit
I would like to thank everyone who attended our annual District dinner last month. Each year
our District has the opportunity to recognize two individuals with the highest award a
volunteer can receive at the District level: the District Award of Merit. This year’s
recipients were: Joe Gravelle and Rich Harnish. Please join with me in thanking these
volunteers for all of the time, energy, and resources they have shared with Scouting over the
years.
